Projects

A select variety of side projects I have worked on or created.

Venture Party™

Venture Party is a card game that I worked on with Dorkly Illustrator George Rottkamp. We worked together to develop a simple cardgame where you manage your disposable party members, collect loot, and try to deduce what other players have in a humorous, fantasy setting. The game currently has over 300 preorders and is set be avaiable for sale in September 2017. Each card's text contains a unique and strange event that informs the art direction of the image. Follow us on Facebook and preorder at Golden Bell Studios

Random Art Idea.com

Random Art Idea is a simple web app that I created. It's as simple as it sounds: go there and get a new Random Art Idea to break your artist's block or break you out of your comfort zone. Check it out at Randomartidea.com

Mandala Exploration

An exploration of social issues through mandalas. The final artwork was a 9 panel polytich done for a gallery show. Each piece is 3 layers of cut paper on top of illustration board, then painted with acrylic paint. The final result is a low relief sculptural artwork.

“Book of Mandalas and Other Patterns”

A book a wrote, illustrated and published. This book contains Creative Commons resources of Mandalas and other circular patterns. These artworks are perfect for recreating as tattoos, illustrations or just for meditation and decoration. It also contains directions on how to make your own circular pattern or mandala.

Circle Portraits - Education Advocates

This is part of a series I did for my Art Ed master's show. The series was of large digitally printed 36" x 54" canvases. The idea was to play on a bunch of ideas from art history, starting with Pop Art's use of faces of modern icons - but instead I chose icons who also had something to offer to the world of education and would hopefully have more than "5 seconds of fame". The disembodied heads are a play on the term "Talking Head", which I used to represent their public advocacy of their chosen discipline. I used the techniques of Chuck Close to create a stippled artwork that would be more in the vein of a digital Seurat. The points used are supposed to be a simulacrum for digital print and display's composition of dots to create complex images. From a distance the large canvases look photographic but at as the viewer closed in on the artwork they can see the image is composed of intricate colors and varied dot work.

Change Our Words Change Our World

I was the project leader in a T-Shirt making project to promote literacy in Kenya. The artwork was created at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School and sent over to Dr. Mungai's orphanage in Kenya. I taught these students the basics of design, typography and printmaking through examples in contemporary media and art history. The story was featured on NY1, the video is available here

HTML5 Children's Book Animation

An experiment I did for a children's book project. It's more of a proof of concept for the future of children's book art. The artwork was generated in Adobe Illustrator and then animated entirely using HTML5's transformation webkit.

Self Portrait Animation

A self portrait that I created in Adobe illustrator, I than took the artwork and created multiple layers. Then with each layer I animated them seperately using HTML5 and CSS Webkit Animations.

Potions & Poultices

An etsy shop of fantasy style potions and poultices. All items are hand painted, weathered and aged to order. The shop can be located here.

Belaxed Reaxation Timer

This was a graduate project that involved creating a brand for a fictional company from beginning to end. I created a relaxation scheduling app that had designs and ancillaries focused on Mandalas. The Applet was created with CSS and HTML5. Something similar to the final applet demo can be found here. It looks a bit different (or broken) outside of it's native demo window, but the idea is still there.
